JUST IN: Burhanpur police have apprehended Prakash Mahajan, the seventh accused involved in the embezzlement of funds at the Tribal Welfare Department in Madhya Pradesh. This development comes as part of an ongoing investigation led by SP Rahul Kumar Lodha, which has already resulted in the arrest of seven individuals linked to the notorious welfare funds scam. Reports indicate that the accused collaborated with Narayan Patil, the accounts branch in-charge, to misappropriate over Rs 26.5 lakh of government funds. These ill-gotten funds were allegedly used to acquire a two-acre property near Sai temple in Khaknar Kalan back in 2014. In a bid to evade police action, Mahajan recently sold the said property to a Baba named Girish Chokde of Sanawad town in 2022. The Baba operates a trust known as Swami Sukriti Education and Social Welfare Committee in Sanawad. Meanwhile, Patil transferred approximately Rs 16 lakh to Chokde and his trust through Narmada Jhabua Gramin Bank. The police have also seized around Rs 15 lakh from Patil. A notice has been issued to Baba Girish Chokde, requesting documents and information related to the transaction. As the investigation progresses, further action will be taken accordingly.
